Albeit a recent development, the Mueller site has deep roots in Austin’s history. The community is a long-term development of the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, which closed in 1999 following the opening of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Prior to civilian use, the Mueller Airport existed as Bergstrom Air Force Base, which closed in the early 1990s.

Today, Mueller is considered to be a model for sustainable and responsible development. The original vision of the developers was to create a walkable and bikeable community with parks, trails, shopping, dining, community centers, and a mix of residential living options and commercial developments. The vision has come to life, and then some. Servicing more than just residents, well-known stores such as HEB, Bed Bath and Beyond, the Home Depot, and Best Buy anchor the Mueller Retail and Market centers. Hungry shoppers can enjoy a plethora of local dining options, including Chipotle, Torchy’s Tacos, Smashburger, Starbucks and many more.

Mueller also offers numerous facilities to the greater Austin community, with strong ties to the University and health sector, the Dell Pediatric Research Institute, Texas Health Research Campus, and prestigious Dell Children’s Medical Center sit to the north west of the community. The entire Austin Independent School District benefits from an exclusive state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center. Families can enjoy The Austin Children’s Museum (now re-named the Thinkery) and the Austin Playhouse. There are also future plans for an Alamo Drafthouse Theater. Numerous eco-friendly spaces exist within the community limits, including a central lake and park, hike and bike trails, an open-air amphitheater, and creative art installations. The central park houses some of Austin’s best food trucks and, on Sundays, residents can enjoy weekly Farmers Markets.

Respected builders, such as Standard Pacific and David Weekley Homes, along with creative architects, like Michael Hsu, have helped develop the Mueller residential sector. With notable history, wise development, convenient living, and innovative design, Mueller is Austin’s only true Mixed-Use Urban Village.
