Mueller Community in East Austin - photo by Bob Kelly
The Mueller Community is a 711-acre Planned Unit Development (PUD) in the northeast central portion of the city of Austin. The project is being developed on the former site of the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, which was closed in 1999 upon the opening of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in southeast Austin.
The new community broke ground in 2007 and is expected to take at least 10 years to finish. The new community is being developed by Catellus. The plans include a Town Center, planned after the regional retail (which includes stores such as Best Buy, The Home Depot, and Chair King), and the Dell Children's Hospital.
There are six builders participating in the development of the area: David Weekley Homes, Meritage Homes, Standard Pacific Homes, Streetman Homes, Saldaña Homes, and Muskin Homes
25% of the planned residential homes are to be part of the Mueller Affordable Program, available under a shared equity scheme. The affordable program is available to households earning less than 80% of the Austin Mean Family Income.
Residents are zoned to the Austin Independent School District. The community includes a site for a future elementary school.
